You never know what you will find at an auction. One of our local auctioneers allows bidders to preview the Saturday auction items on Friday night. It's a great opportunity to really look at the items and then do some research before the auction. They had a building full of stuff tonight! And a variety like I haven't seen in a while. They plan on running four rings tomorrow. The most I have ever seen is three at one auction. It will keep me hopping for sure.
Among the oddities tonight...
This is the first thing I saw when I walked in tonight. Yikes! I felt like I was being watched the entire time I was there! Update: These sold anywhere from $50 to over $500.
This doesn't begin to capture the number of saddles they had. It was a huge long row.
There were table and tables full of lanterns. In every condition. House lanterns, buggy lanterns, car lanterns. You name it, they had it. Update: some sold for a few dollars and I saw one set sell for $1,800!)
Lots of delicious vintage telephones (always a weakness for me). We'll see how much they go for. They may come home with me. Update: the pair sold for $40 (I didn't take them home)
I love, love, love, this wooden sled. I haven't decided on my max bid tomorrow, but I hope it comes home with me. Update: this sold for $250—it's mine!
Fun fact: CoCo-Wheats were made right here in my town up until a couple of years ago. I thought it was interesting this premium was mailed from Warsaw to West Virginia and has somehow made its way back to Warsaw in this auction. Fantastic graphics on the premium! Update: these were in a set of four flats with a bunch of other things that sold for $90.
These US Army prints caught my eye tonight as well. I don't think I will bid on them, but I sure thought they were cool. Update: there were about 10 of these. They sold for $25 for all of them.
This Orrlaskan 100% pure wool blanket is sooooo cool. I may bid on it just for the neat graphics on the label. Update: this sold for $80
This is listed as a fruit or trapping basket. Whatever it is, I love it. I will do my best to make this mine... Update: It's mine! $35.
Lastly, (no pun intended), there was a hearse. Yes, a hearse. I can guarantee I will not be bidding on this. But they did have two buggies and two sleighs. All of them need to be restored. Update: this sold for $2,300.
So, there is a little bit for everyone. Which means there will be a crowd tomorrow. And things will probably go higher than I want to pay. Four rings helps divide the crowd, but it also means I have to jump back and forth to ensure I don't miss any of the treasures I want! I will write an update with the items I do purchase and I will report back on prices of these items if I am around to see them be sold.
Wish me luck!
