Side Table Makeover

Sometimes I can see the finished piece in my mind immediately and sometimes I know I can do something with the piece but don't see it in my mind just yet. This particular piece—I knew immediately what it could look like. I found this little side table at an auction last week. It had been well used over the years and had lost its shimmer but it was rock solid.

I thought this would look cute painted in a cream color and distressed.

I used Waverly Chalk paint in the Cashew color. It took a couple of coats.

It had a plain wooden knob. I started digging through my stash to see if I could ramp this up a bit.

I came up with this beauty. I had gotten it in a box of odds and ends at a garage sale—you know, the ones that have a bunch of stuff for a dollar or two. I usually can find something useful in those boxes.

It was a little grimy but it cleaned up beautifully.

After the paint thoroughly dried, I distressed the piece.

After distressing, I coated the entire piece with Rust-oleum Chalked Matte Clear Protective Topcoat.

And this is the finished piece. I love how it turned out. It is ready to be a side table or a night stand now.

And I think the glass knob is perfect for this piece. It was the just the "jewelry" this piece needed to be a real gem.
