I pretty much stick to small-ish furniture. I don't have a big truck or trailer to haul furniture and usually I am wrangling the piece on my own so I usually have an assortment of small "projects-in-waiting". I rediscovered this piece while I was cleaning out my workspace a few months ago. I was doing some reorganizing and weeding out some projects that I was no longer interested. This little table was worn, but sturdy. It just needed a little TLC.
The question is always, paint or strip? We decided for this one, we would do both. We detached the tabletop from the base.
We decided to strip the old finish off of the top and to paint the base.
On the left is the "before" half of the table, the right is the "after a lot of sanding!" half of the table. After a lot more sanding, the entire top had been sanded and was smooth as a baby's behind.
We stained each part of the tabletop with Varathane Early American stain. It really gave it such a nice rich color. We protected this with a satin finish polyurethane.
We painted the base with a green chalk paint that was mixed at Lowe's I don't have the name of the paint chip handy, but I will look it up soon. It was coated with a satin poly to protect the finish. For some reason I neglected to take photos of the painting step. Sometimes, I take a million pics and sometimes I barely take any. Oh well, I'll do better in the future.
The top was reassembled (reattaching the hinges and reattaching the top to the base).
I love how this turned out. It is a perfect little side table to hold your beverage and books, yet you could raise the sides and play a board game. The middle section on the top didn't sand as cleanly as the two drop leaf sides. I do love that it looks worn though.
This sold within a day of putting it in the booth a couple of months ago. I am just now getting around to catching up with my posts!
